Proposed new gun laws advance in Colorado Senate committee

DENVER (KDVR) — At the state Capitol, Colorado senators were getting an earful Wednesday night about three major gun bills. Two of them are already on their way to the full Senate, and one more was still being debated Wednesday night in the State, Veterans and Military Affairs committee.The bills would broaden red flag laws, allow victims of gun violence to file lawsuits against firearm dealers and manufacturers and raise the age for firearm purchases to 21. LAFAYETTE, Colo. (KDVR) — During Tuesday night's Lafayette City Council meeting, some members showed support for a drafted ordinance looking to ban the retail sale of puppies and kittens through both brick-and-mortar stores and private breeders."Pet stores often get their puppies from puppy mills, which are just awful conditions," Tonya Briggs, a Lafayette City Council member, said. CLEAR CREEK COUNTY, Colo. (KDVR) — The iconic Eisenhower Tunnel that connects the eastern side of the Rocky Mountains to the Western Slope turned 50 years old on Wednesday. On March 8, 1973, the Eisenhower Tunnel became the highest vehicular tunnel in the world sitting at an elevation of 11,112 feet. LOS ANGELES (AP) — Three Los Angeles police officers were shot Wednesday evening and hospitalized in unknown condition while the suspect remained barricaded in a neighborhood east of Los Angeles, police said.Officers had gone to Lincoln Heights, an older neighborhood of single-family homes, at around 4:30 p.m. and the shootings were reported about two hours later, LAPD Officer Norma Eisenman said.The officers were hospitalized but there was no immediate word on their conditions. Two of this year’s Oscar-nominated directors have ties to Boston as graduates from Emerson College.
