AUSTIN (KXAN) -- The Austin Animal Center is extending its "Meet My Match" program another two months to gather more data on its adoption success. In June, the center started closing its doors to the public on Wednesdays and Thursdays between 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. During that time, only people with an adoption appointment were allowed to walk into the center, allowing staff to provide a more personalized adoption experience and giving them more time to research lost pets and find their home. The program was extended to now run through the end of August. In the first month, the center saw a zero percent return rate of adopted pets, meaning the adoption appointments were successful in finding people the right pet for their home. "That's something we're super excited about. It's obviously showing that it can be more successful when you get that one-on-one matchmaking attention from a counselor," Mary Brown, the center's program manager, explained. Brown said all adoption times were not f...Record heat to start week, chance of rain to finish

Get the latest, news, weather, sports and community events delivered right to your inbox! Hi Jaime. I have a real dilemma and I don't know what to do. I have a very good friend, Heather, who is vegan. I respect her choice. So every time she comes to my house for dinner, I happily make her a special meal just for her that is vegan, while I serve something else for myself and the other people at dinner. However, when I go to her house for dinner, she NEVER prepares a special meal for me. I'm always forced to eat tofu or beans, neither of which are my favorite. In fact, I don't really like them at all. I thought pasta could be a good compromise, but she doesn't like it. Don't you think she should cook a special meal for me with food I like when I go over there, like I do for her? She said I'm being unreasonable, but I don't think I am. I think it...Police investigating Washington County gun shop burglary

Dear Amy: I have been happily married for 17 years to a kind and loving woman. It is a second marriage for us both.We are retired and living in an upscale over-55 community.Over the past few months my wife has begun drinking to excess every evening. When drunk she gets very mean. She criticizes me and dredges up any past mistakes in my life. For instance, when my first wife and I divorced, I made a substantial financial sacrifice in order to continue to live near my daughter. My wife calls my daughter a “fat loser.” (She and her fiancé have good jobs, own a home and are self-sufficient, but yes they are overweight.)Every time she gets drunk, she attacks me and brings up how much better off she and I would be if I hadn’t spent my savings staying near my “fat loser daughter.”These drunken episodes are happening at least weekly.I speak with her the next day, and she sticks to her rationale for drinking and blames me for whatever she can think of. She claims that she drinks because of me...Ukraine's spymaster comes out of the shadows

When you make a mistake (and every monkey falls out of a tree occasionally), look where you slipped, not where you fell.Today’s South played at four hearts. (Three notrump would have been a fine spot but tough to reach.) South won the first club with the queen, drew trumps and tried a diamond to dummy’s queen. East took the king and returned a club.Declarer won and had to attack the spades. He led low to dummy’s jack, losing to East’s king, and ducked the spade return, hoping West had held the doubleton ace. Alas, down one.HIGH CLUBSSouth fell when he tried to find a lucky lie of the spades, but he slipped earlier. After South draws trumps, he can take two more high clubs, pitching a diamond from dummy, and then lead the ace and queen of diamonds. The defender who wins is end-played. He must lead a diamond or a club, letting South discard a spade and ruff in dummy, or break the spades to South’s advantage.Learning from your mistakes is a route to improve...Horoscopes July 17, 2023: Luke Bryan, be the one to make a difference
