A win-win? How the Sharks’ trade for Duclair could benefit everyone San Jose Sharks winger Anthony Duclair said a former Florida Panthers teammate offered to help him get familiar with the area after he makes the move to the South Bay later this summer.“(Joe Thornton’s) going to take me under his wing, he says,” Duclair said Monday. “I’m really looking forward to it.”Duclair, 27, was acquired by the Sharks from Florida on Saturday for center Steven Lorentz and a 2025 fifth-round draft pick. It was a shock for Duclair, who went from being in the Stanley Cup Final with the Panthers last month to joining the rebuilding Sharks – all in less than three weeks. But Duclair said after speaking with Sharks general manager Mike Grier, and, of course, Thornton, about what might lie ahead, any concerns he had “turned quickly to excitement.”“I’m just excited for the opportunity here in San Jose,” Duclair said. “We’ve got some good talent up front and I’m just looking forward to getting there and meeting everyone.”Perhaps this could be a wi...

Athletics look up to Tony Kemp as veteran presence during difficult times Things are looking up for Tony Kemp, although you’d never know it from talking to him.The guy A’s players look up to probably more than any other is a 5-foot-6, 160-pound second baseman/outfielder who had to be wondering whether his roster spot was secure with a batting average of .146 and an on-base percentage of .244 through his first 51 games. And it’s not because Kemp has since broken out of his slump, hitting .340 with an on-base percentage of .418 over his last 16 games with the A’s heading to Detroit and Boston on a six-game road trip before the All-Star break. To the contrary, when Kemp was at his lowest point statistically, he was setting an example of every-day professionalism that likely kept him on the roster.“I feel like part of being a vet is carrying yourself in a certain way,” Kemp said Sunday after the A’s lost 8-7 to the Chicago White Sox. “You don’t want to be that guy where you’re getting hits and you act ...

What Trump said about a president under indictment By Andrew Kaczynski and Abby Turner | CNNFormer President Donald Trump said in 2016 that a president under indictment would “cripple the operations of our government” and create an “unprecedented constitutional crisis” – years before he himself was indicted on federal charges while running for a second term as president.Trump made the comments nearly seven years ago about Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential campaign.“We could very well have a sitting president under felony indictment and ultimately a criminal trial,” Trump said during a November 5, 2016, campaign rally in Reno, Nevada, reviewed by CNN’s KFile. “It would grind government to a halt.”Just days earlier, on October 28, then-FBI director James Comey publicly announced they had reopened the investigation into Clinton’s handling of classified information related to her use of a private email server during her tenure as secretary of state. Now, Trump finds himself under the exact situation he repeatedly described aft...

Charged with killing a man for the third time in his life, Epting was coerced by Alameda County Sheriff’s deputies to throw urine and feces at disfavored inmates, and later testified against the deputies in one of the jail’s biggest corruption scandals in recent memory. He has also cycled through four different lawyers, the latest of which is arguing that authorities failed to recognized obvious signs that Epting was mentally ill when they detained and questioned him in 2017.Epting, who has two prior manslaughter convictions, is charged with killing Edgar Trammel, his neighbor, in a July 22, 2017 shooting on the 2700 block of 75...
