Burn ban issued for Hays County

HAYS COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — A burn ban was reinstated for Hays County Tuesday morning and will be in place for at least 90 days. The county tweeted Tuesday that the ban was reinstated during the Commissioners Court meeting. The ban will be reevaluated after the 90-day period is up. This comes after dozens of acres burned in a brush fire near Hilliard Road over the weekend. Hays County brush fire fully contained, officials say Hays County Judge Ruben Becerra said in a Facebook post the ban is a proactive measure to protect the community. "Due to dry weather conditions [and] high temperatures our Fire Marshal has implemented this burn ban as a precautionary measure," the post read. SAND LAKE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Sand Lake Merchant is set to have its soft opening on Saturday, July 15. Owner and curator Amanda Goyer said the store took 16 months to renovate. SELKIRK, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Law enforcement agencies responded to Henry Hudson Park on Tuesday morning after a body was reportedly spotted in the Hudson River. LOUIS, Ill. - A Belleville, Illinois, man appeared in federal court Tuesday after admitting to exploiting minors by producing sexual abuse material.Prosecutors with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Illinois said Zachary Dennert, 21, targeted young boys on social media, gained their trust by pretending to be a young girl, and then manipulated his victims into producing sexually-explicit material for him.Dennert pleaded guilty to four counts of production, distribution, and transportation of child sexual abuse material. EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. - An East St. Louis man and a St. Louis man were sentenced in federal court on Tuesday for a string of violent carjackings in Missouri and Illinois in summer 2021. Prosecutors with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Illinois said Jamariante Burgess, 21, and Armon Simpson, 19, admitted to conspiring with others other to commit carjackings between July 12 and Aug. 5, 2021.According to court documents, Burgess and Simpson pointed guns at and carjacked a person at the Roosevelt Homes public hosing development in East St. Louis. DUI-Related Accident near Hood Franklin Road Left 70-Year-Old Man DeadHOOD, CA (July 11, 2023) – Friday evening, Barry Andrew McClain died after a DUI-related incident along Highway 160.The fatal crash happened around 7:30 p.m., on Highway 160, just south of Hood Franklin Road.According to reports, the McClain attempted to avoid another driver driving erratically. Police said that McClain drove off the roadway to avoid a collision and into the oncoming traffic.The first responders at the site of the collision declared McClain dead at the scene. 70-year-old Barry Andrew McClain served as a chairman of the board of directors for the Courtland Fire Protection District.Authorities said that the second driver was suspected to be driving under the influence but this has yet to be confirmed.
