(WFLA) — Researchers from Florida Atlantic University (FAU) fear a pathogen could be breeding amid the rising levels of seaweed known as sargassum found washing up on some Florida beaches.Masses of the sargassum seaweed have grown larger in recent years. This year, the seaweed bloom reached record size, and experts said "major beaching events are inevitable.""It impacts tourism, it impacts some of the health of some people living by the beaches," said Dr. Frank Muller-Kager, an oceanographer at the University of South Florida. Albany man arrested for alleged car theft ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Shaun M. Somers, 44, is facing charges of grand larceny in the third degree and criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree. New York State Police arrested Somers following an investigation into a report of a stolen vehicle on Tuesday morning. (NEWS10) - Connecting two communities, the Hudson-Athens Lighthouse has been a symbol of the region for almost 150 years. While its future is uncertain, a beacon of hope remains as one group works to restore and protect the beloved landmark. Off the Beaten Path: Moto Coffee Machine The lighthouse was completed in 1874. To this day, the lighthouse remains an aide to navigation. The U.S. Coast Guard is responsible for maintaining its beacon.Starting on June 17, scheduled tours of the lighthouse will resume and depart from Hudson Riverfront Park and Athens Riverfront Park. The season will wrap in October. Man dies in crash on I-270 in north St. Louis County ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. - One man died overnight after a crash on Interstate 270 in north St. Louis County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. MSHP reports that David Simmons, 28, died in the crash. Next of kin have been notified. The crash happened around 2 a.m. Wednesday on I-270 near New Halls Ferry Road. New hydrogen hub in Wentzville raises concern for residents  Investigators say Simmons was traveling too fast and too close to another vehicle before he attempted to avoid a crash with another driver. He ended up striking another vehicle, left the roadway and overturned, according to the MSHP crash report. Simmons was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver did not suffer any reported injuries.
