Santa Fe Drive is the first confirmed landing place for one of Mayor Mike Johnston’s promised micro-communities. The communities, pitched as collections of tiny homes or prefabricated Pallet shelters with on-site staffing, mental health, addiction treatment and other services, are designed to provide transitional housing and safer alternatives for people now living in tent encampments on city sidewalks or other rights of way.The forthcoming groundbreaking marks a significant step in Johnston’s push, backed by an emergency declaration, to get 1,000 people off the street and into housing or temporary shelter before the end of this year. The property, owned by the Colorado Department of Tra...Hundreds of pro-Israeli demonstrators rally in Westwood

Hundreds of demonstrators gathered outside the federal building in Westwood on Tuesday to show their support for Israel after the bloody incursion on Israeli soil by the militant group Hamas over the weekend. The rally comes on the heels of a news conference held today at Los Angeles City Hall where councilmembers and leaders of the Jewish community stood side by side, speaking about the war with phrases like “cold blooded murder” and “ethnic and religious violence” and an “attack on democracy everywhere.” The surprise attack by Hamas by air, land and sea killed hundreds of Israeli citizens and soldiers, prompting Israel’s leaders to declare war and retaliate, bombarding the Palestinian territory of Gaza. The toll stands at some 1,800 dead on both sides, but that number is expected to grow. L.A. is home to the second largest Jewish community in the United States and the largest Israeli population outside of Israel.
