How the EU has been supporting Ukraine

Even before Ukraine came under attack from Russia in February 2022, the EU was keen to support Kyiv and forge closer links. Find out how, World.BackgroundSince withdrawing from the Soviet Union in 1991, Ukraine has been keen to pursue its own path, including forging closer links with the rest of Europe.RussiaUkraine’s relations with Russia have been tense due to the latter’s determination to keep the country within its sphere of influence. In 2014, Russia annexed Crimea in violation of international law, a move strongly condemned by the EU. It has also been waging a hybrid war against Ukraine, including economic pressure and disinformation attacks. In a resolution adopted in December 2021, MEPs called on Russia to withdraw its troops threatening Ukraine and said any aggression by Moscow must come at a high economic and political price. Parliament had already expressed grave concern about the large Russian military build-up at the border with Ukraine and in illegally occupied Crimea i...Ask Amy: Our neighbors ignore the notes about their eyesore home

Dear Amy: I live in an affluent neighborhood of expensive, although older homes. The vast majority of homes are very well-maintained and manicured. Many have had major remodels to look like brand-new homes. However, there are a couple of homes that are in serious need of a facelift! One home in particular is a complete eyesore. Although it is worth over a couple million dollars, the lawn is dead, there are high weeds where the lawn should be, paint doesn’t match and/or is faded in places, and wood fascia is rotting, along with other significant cosmetic problems. There do not seem to be any code violations that would get the city involved.I am not aware of the owner’s financial situation, but they have been there long enough where there should be significant equity to refinance and pull out money for repairs – or sell and move to a less expensive home.Other neighbors have left notes, to no avail.Any suggestions on how to get this family to fix up their house, or even move?– ...Harriette Cole: I’m fuming over this anonymous note about my teen

But the 2023 season kicks off Saturday with “Week Zero,” with a local school making a 3,354-mile trip overseas to face a team called “The Fighting Irish” in Ireland’s capital. Makes perfect sense.Navy was a model of consistency under Coach Ken Niumatalolo, until a few years ago. The team reached 10 bowls in his first 12 full seasons at the helm, before posting an 11-23 mark from 2020-22. Nearly 60 years after the Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, a Howard University professor said his students still find the address relevant — once they read the entire speech.Marcus Board Jr., associate professor of political science at Howard University, points out that the first part of King’s speech was a sharp critique of the nation’s treatment of Black Americans. In the first segment of his address, King said Black Americans fighting for civil rights could never be satisfied “as long as the Negro is a victim of the unspeakable horrors of police brutality” and called for accountability, saying “America has given the Negro people a bad check, a check which has come back marked ‘insufficient funds.'”Board said students are not familiar with that part of King’s address. Instead they’ve been taught the part of the speech that talked of King’s dream of a society where racial harmony has been achieved...WTOP’s Beer of the Week: Dewey Secret Machine Strawberry Blueberry Gelato
