“My results playing with Joe are improving,” Ed, the club expert, told me.“He’s ceased his mad pursuit of overtricks?”“He’s as bad as ever,” Ed sighed, “but lately when he loses a cold game, we haven’t been vulnerable.”Joe Overberry thinks it’s nobler to go down trying for overtricks than to make his bid. He was declarer at today’s 3NT, and West led the queen of spades.“Joe won with the ace,” Ed said, “and took his ace and queen of clubs. West followed with the eight and ten, dummy with the deuce and three.”50 POINTS“Joe then led a spade to dummy’s king and tried the king of clubs, but when West threw a diamond, Joe took only eight tricks. He said that if clubs had split 3-3, he would have made an overtrick. At least we lost only 50 points.”Joe should have been plus 400. When West’s 10-8 of clubs appear, Joe can overtake his queen with dummy’s king, the...Horoscopes June 1, 2023: Morgan Freeman, call the shots

MANCHESTER, England (AP) — As a part of Manchester United’s treble-winning team of 1999, Gary Neville admits he is in fear ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup final.United is the only team to win the three major trophies in a single English soccer season — the Premier League title, Champions League and FA Cup.Now Manchester City is in contention to replicate that feat, having already secured the league title.City has the chance to win its second trophy this season when it faces United in the FA Cup final at Wembley Stadium, which would set up a possible treble when the team coached by Pep Guardiola meets Inter Milan in the Champions League final in Istanbul on June 10.“I do fear it is on the cards,” Neville told The Associated Press. “City have not got there yet, but they look like they are on the way, on the path.“They’ve got a great manager, they’ve got great players, but they’ve still got to get over the line. Anything can happen and we just pray and (have our) fingers c...Last-chance saloon for Nantes: French powerhouse fighting relegation on final day

PARIS (AP) — There is still a glimmer of hope at Nantes that the eight-time champion can avoid relegation, 11 years after its last season in the second-tier of French soccer.Nantes hosted last-placed Angers in their final match of a dismal season on Saturday. The Canaris are in a two-way fight with Auxerre that will determine which club goes down alongside already-relegated Troyes, Ajaccio and Angers. Four teams are being demoted because the number of clubs in the top-flight will be reduced to 18 from next season. After winning just six matches, Nantes has two less points than Auxerre and is guaranteed to finish with its lowest tally since returning to the French top-flight in 2013. To stay in Ligue 1, Nantes should win against Angers and hope Auxerre does not prevail against second-placed Lens.On paper, the scenario is likely. But recent results don’t bode well for Nantes.Since losing to Toulouse 5-1 in the Coupe de France final, Nantes has lost four games and drawn one while ...Bilibili: Q1 Earnings Snapshot
