ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Dominant on the mound for much of the past three seasons, Shohei Ohtani has struggled over the last six weeks. The two-way Japanese star is 2-2 with a 4.88 ERA in his last eight starts. He has allowed at least three runs in all but two of those games after holding opponents to two or fewer in a franchise record 12 straight dating to last season.“Up to this point, I haven’t felt like I did last year when I was really good on the mound,” Ohtani said through his interpreter after Friday’s game against Seattle.Ohtani has allowed three or more runs in six games, matching his total last year when he was 15-9 with a 2.33 and 219 strikeouts. He had a 3.18 ERA in 2021, when he was voted AL MVP.Ohtani’s skid has left him with a 5-2 record and 3.32 ERA to go along with a .282 batting average, 17 homers and 44 RBIs going into Saturday. Ohtani leads the majors with a .172 opposing batting average, and his 102 strikeouts are third, but he has had control issues. CLEVELAND (AP) — Cleveland Guardians reliever James Karinchak has been optioned to the minor leagues following his latest ineffective outing. The team made the move on Saturday, a day after the right-hander allowed one run and walked two in the eighth inning of the Guardians’ 10-9, 14-inning comeback win over the Houston Astros. The 27-year-old Karnichak will go to Triple-A Columbus to work on mechanics and doing a better job of controlling the opponent’s running game. Before leaving, he got in one last workout at Progressive Field ahead of Saturday’s game.“Not an easy decision, not a fun conversation,” manager Terry Francona said. “As you can imagine, the hope is he can take this couple weeks and work on commanding the strike zone, working on holding runners. He probably didn’t feel like hearing that today.”The Guardians brought up left-hander Tim Herrin to take his roster spot. This is Herrin’s third stint with the club in 2023.Karinchak is 2-4 with a 3.90 ER...Josh Wynder, 18-year-old American defender, to join Benfica from USL’s Louisville

June is Pride Month, a season intended to celebrate the lives and experiences of LGBTQ+ people and to protest threats to hard-won civil rights. In the U.S., this year’s Pride celebrations are taking place as legislators in many states seek to ban drag shows, restrict gender-affirming health care, and limit how teachers can talk about sexuality and gender in the classroom. In Colorado in November, five people were killed and several injured when a gunman shot them in a gay club. In Israel, Tel Aviv celebrated Pride for the first time since the country’s new far-right government, stacked with anti-LGBTQ+ members, took office. For more than a half-century, the annual marches have been an opportunity to demand action on specific issues such as the AIDS epidemic and same-sex marriage while also serving as a public celebration. These days, Pride celebrations and events — teeming with images of rainbows, a symbol of hope, unity and diversity for LGBTQ+ people — can be found all over th...Man City star De Bruyne off inured after just 35 minutes of Champions League final
